"Look, If you had one shot, or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted, in one moment, would you capture it, or just let it slip?" This is a question asked by Marshall B Mathers "Eminem" in his song "Lose Yourself".
Conversations always arise about who "The GOAT" (The Greatest Of All Times) is. This is throughout sports, music, writers, and many other platforms. When I am asked who I think the GOAT is, I ask "what criteria are we basing this high praise on?" I don't think there will be one solid answer that everyone will agree on due to biases that we might hold due to when we were raised or the biases we might have now.
There are some people that may think Dodges are better because of the Dodge Neon, or others might say Ford is better because of the Ford Taurus, while Chevy lovers will talk about the Chevy Cavalier. In recent talk, the question has been asked if Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell is the best basketball player of all time? R&B lovers will sit and compare artists like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, or Prince just to name a few.
Instead of asking who is "THE GOAT", the question should be what did all of these people have in common to be revered in this fashion? Drum roll please! They all had the opportunity and they seized the moment. It could have been the buzzer winning shot Michael Jordan hit to win the NBA Finals against the Jazz in 1998 or Doug Flutie‘s "Hail Mary" pass to win the Miami Orange Bowl in 1984 that thrusted them into the spotlight. How about the music artists that started circulating mixed tapes out of their cars and it was placed in the right person's hand or that now celebrity who got rich and famous from a YouTube video. You see, life is defined by opportunities seized or missed. You should always be prepared to recognize and act upon the opportunities that are being offered. Not every opportunity being presented will be of good will or during the timeframe in which you think it is supposed to happen but through discernment and meditation you will recognize what is right for you. You must be willing to rearrange your present situation, take risks, work hard, and be bold in order to maximize the situation that is put before you. #SPEAK2MYHEART
