Ego Vs Pride

PREPARE YOUR EARS TO LISTEN AND YOUR HEART TO RECEIVE AS YOU TAKE IN THE WORDS THAT LOOK TO CHANGE LIVES, RENEW HEARTS AND OPEN MINDS.

You have to love the English language.... With all of its different rules on how to structure a sentence or the spelling of certain words or the meanings of them when used in different ways. The word meat and meet sound the same, but mean something different. What about the words I and eye or dear and deer. What about the rule of "I" before "E" except after "C" but you have words like science, ceiling, conceit which this rule does not apply.

How about the word pride. The two definitions that I found for this word is, a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements and the other is consciousness of one's own dignity. The first definition represents pleasure, joy, delight, and gratification while the other meaning is self-esteem, dignity, honor, ego, and self-worth.

Growing up, we were always told to take pride in ourselves...in the way we dressed, worked, talked and carried ourselves as this not only represented you but your parents and guardians as well. Upon further examination of the second meaning, we see how this word could have a negative connotation, as well as, when we think of ego. This could be in the form of thinking so highly of one-self, race, religion, gender, ethnicity, associates, friends, or family that you begin to belittle or shame anyone that does not have the same belief or values.

Think about the last time you saw someone who was less fortunate than you or went through a neighborhood that was in horrible condition due to whatever factor. How did you feel for those people that possibly didn't have clothes, shoes, food, or couldn't even get a job let alone a job that paid enough due to a mental illness or a condition outside of being lazy. Those that went to search for assistance had doors of opportunity closed in their faces. Do you know that this could have been you? I am quite sure you would have said something to the effect of "it would never be me because I would pick myself up by the bootstraps and make ends meet no matter what it took”. What a valiant effort you would make, and I would applaud you, but what happens when you are still underpaid, undervalued, and overworked because you have more than one job and you are still unable to pay your bills. What if your children have found other ways to make ends meet or try to escape the situation entirely?

The condition of our hearts will set the tone for all of our relationships and our hearts should be the lens in which we look through while projecting our inner character outwardly to the world. Money is not always the resolution to fix a problem, but a kind word, your time, or your talents could be used to inspire or give someone a glimmer of hope to move and do better. Make today the day you feel that sense of pride or deep satisfaction by eliminating your ego and clasping the hand of someone that is reaching up for help and assisting them by pulling them up so that they can achieve their dreams and goals as well. #SPEAK2MYHEART
