What's In a Day?

PREPARE YOUR EYES TO READ AND YOUR HEART TO RECEIVE AS YOU TAKE IN THE WORDS THAT LOOK TO CHANGE LIVES, RENEW HEARTS, AND OPEN MINDS. We are fresh into the new year, and some of you may have made resolutions, some have set new goals, and others are not concerned because you are just so excited you made it through 2021.

Have you ever wondered why people use the first of January to make a change or try to devise a new plan for their lives? Is this a magical time when your life resets because the clock strikes midnight? Change can only happen when the effort is applied, and by not putting in the work, that magical date you have waited on all year is just another day on the calendar.

A day consists of 24 hours, and for all of the astronomical people that read my posts, it really is 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.0916 seconds for the Earth to turn once on its axis.

For the sake of this post, we will continue with the 24 hour day that consists of 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds. On average, a person at rest will take about 16 breaths per minute which means about 960 breaths an hour, 23,040 breaths a day. Most adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep each day which allows for 17 to 15 hours to complete their daily tasks. An article published on MedicineNet stated there are 27 basic emotions, and a person can express all those emotions in one day.

Each day we awake, we are all dying. As morbid as that might sound, the good news is that a baby is born daily not to take our place but to experience a world that we left behind (hopefully for the better). Within our 24 days, we all have the opportunity to achieve or abandon our goals, enhance or worsen ourselves, instill or mislead others, value or devalue a situation, succeed or fail at a business venture, or swim or sink under pressure.

I have a friend that always says "baby steps." He knows that you must begin somewhere, and although it might seem small at present, your position in life will have the opportunity to become greater later. Getting to know who you are and what you are capable of is a feeling like none other. Enhancing your time management techniques will allow you to get into your zone and become unstoppable. Here is one way to help ensure your morning starts positive.

As you fall into bed, view your sleep as the beginning of the next day by setting your schedule before closing your eyes. Write down what you need to accomplish tomorrow and assign a time to begin and end the task. While doing this, try to match your energy levels to the type of work you're doing. For example, use your high-energy time before noon, use the hours of 1-3 for calls, meetings, and emails, and your free time for urgent or additional tasks until the end of the day.

Following this tip will allow you to rest better due to the visualization of your ideal workday. It will also allow you to have a more productive day by taking the pressure from you having to remember what you have to do, enabling you to meet your goals and boost your confidence.

So what's in a day? Decisions that you make today will shape your week, month, year, life, and possibly future generations.
